The Barrett-Jackson Auto Show can be a little overwhelming: Slobbering fans, fancy cars and dollar signs are in every direction. We ventured to Scottsdale this week to check out the madness and take a few notes.
In addition to a line up of of high-class automobiles (see: Drool-worthy slideshow), we stumbled upon a few cars with hefty price tags and interesting stories. Check out our top five after the jump …

1. Most Expensive Displayed (pictured above): Gumpert Apollo by
Evolution Motorsports
Price: $550,000
This display vehicle put all of the
cars on auction to shame. The Gumpert Apollo does 0 to 60 miles-per-hour in 2.9
seconds and a top speed of 224 miles-per-hour. Its starting price was just over a half million dollars — a pretty steep price tag for a vehicle
you can’t even enter without removing the steering wheel.
Price: $29,000
The Boss Hoss is tricycle features a 502cid Chevy engine — so fast and furiously loud that It’s banned in Canada.

3. Smallest Car: 1963 Peel P50 Replica
Price: $17,000
Tough choice: Second runner up was the $5,000 1984 Honda Zoe Convertible was originally a prize on The Price is Right. With only three wheels, it could make a Mini Cooper look positively Hummer-esque.
But then came the Peel (pictured above). The 1963 Peel P50 Replica took the prize when the auctioneer paused from his nonstop barrage of numerical nonsense to allow a fellow announcer to inform the audience that The Peel is currently the world’s smallest production car according to The Guinness Book of World Records.
4. Biggest Car: 1969 Winnebago Motorhome
Price: $5,500
The Winnebago was not only the
biggest vehicle auctioned off on Wednesday, it was also the biggest bargain of
the day. The winning bid of $5,500 got you a motorhome, a porch complete with
chairs, a bicycle, a handmade wooden surfboard, a new lime green shag carpet — apparently a babe magnet.
Price: $2,500
The room turned
into Oregon Trail when not one, but three of these wagons made a pilgrimage
across the auction block. This particular buggy had a new paint job, a new
canvas and new hoops, for those of you unfamiliar with wagon terminology that
means wheels.
