Some movies are the visual equivalent of comfort food: a little cheesy and a lot satisfying. Whether you’re sick, grumpy, or have a case of the mean reds, it’s usually old movies that offer such soothing.
Singin’ in the Rain is one of those flicks, with Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor, and Debbie Reynolds playing three entertainers contending with the oncoming takeover of talkies, hamming it up with impressive dance moves, and, you know, overcoming really-talented-people obstacles.
In honor of the musical’s 60th anniversary, Turner Classic Movies will screen the film at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, at various AMC Theatres, including Ahwatukee 24.
Thu., July 12, 2 & 7 p.m., 2012
