With only two weeks left in the WNBA regular season, there’s a strong chance that the Phoenix Mercury will be the worst team in the league, but they might also be the best. In spite of a truly awful season, the Mercury is still in sniffing distance of the Western Conference’s fourth and final playoff spot thanks to the return of Diana Taurasi.

While the Mercury are fighting to get into the playoffs, they’re also only a game ahead of the team they’ll be hosting at US Airways Center, 201 East Jefferson Street, on Friday, September 14: the cellar-dwelling Tulsa Shock. For better or worse, the game will set the Mercury on one path or another. A win would keep the Mercury’s dim title hopes alive; a loss, and the Mercury will end up trying to avoid the indignity of being the league’s worst team.
