Francisca Prieto‘s not afraid to reimagine an old book. The London-based artist works with damaged paper goods — books, maps, music sheets, catalogs, encyclopedias — to create her large-scale paperscapes.
Prieto’s writes that she takes a mathematical approach to her work; she folds each piece of paper, with careful attention to its words, images, and symbols, and creates a detailed grid viewed best from up close — and a few steps away.
The artist’s latest series, “UNBOUND,” utilizes a collection of German maps and is currently on view at jaggedart in London.
