While Hispanic Heritage Month officially won’t start until Saturday, September 15, Phoenix Art Museum’s film festival Cine Latino will get a jump start on celebrating. Thanks to a grant from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the fest will include viewings of some of the latest, greatest examples of filmmaking from Central and South America, Spain, and Mexico.
Over the course of a month, seven full-length features will screen, including Diego Lerman’s La Mirada Invisible (with an intro and post-film talk from ASU Professor David Foster), Oscar-winning animated feature Chico & Rita, and Found Memories (the City of Phoenix’s Mariana de la Fuente will discuss the film).
A selection of short films will roll out the fest on Saturday, September 1. Argentinian director Pablo Giorgelli’s Las Acacias closes the event on Sunday, September 30. Admission to screenings is $7 for museum members and $10 for non-members. The sole exception is Tijuana journalism documentary Reportero on Wednesday, September 5, which is free to all.
