There’s a reason why average Americans can’t name more than a few French bands or musicians, past or present. It’s because French music has always been pretty classy. Perhaps that’s an unpatriotic dig, but really, lassis hardly something most folks west of the Atlantic look for when surveying their listening options. We just happen to prefer the fries over the soufflé. But if you consider yourself a connoisseur of troubadours and the Ars Nova, then you may want to check out Experience France at Phoenix’s Musical Instrument Museum, 4725 East Mayo Boulevard. Heck, even if you barely know who Django Reinhardt and Josephine Baker are either of whom are technically French, by the way you’re probably enough of a Renaissance man to enjoy the MIM’s extravagant celebration of French music and culture.
