A recent Junior Achievement survey found that the top three career choices for teens are businessperson, doctor, and teacher. Funny, our not-so-scientific survey of teens we know says trust-fund slacker, overpaid celebrity, and professional beer drinker.
Either way, the next generation could learn a thing or two from Dogfish Head Craft Brewery founder Sam Calagione as he discusses his career and his new book, Brewing Up a Business: Adventures in Entrepreneurship from the Founder of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. Expect smooth talk rather than dry jargon from Calagione, whose Delaware-based brewery is known for producing offbeat beers like Immort Ale and Fed-Extra Mild. Bathtub brewmasters hang onto your dreams, because according to Calagione, that’s a smart way to break into the biz. “I began as a home brewer,” says Calagione. “Starting small allows you to be very creative and experimental without the risk of big-batch brewing.”
