Sixty-two years ago, when the West Coast Science Fantasy Conference (a.k.a. Westercon) was founded, the term “geek” hadn’t been coined. Here in the 21st century, home of an all-powerful communications network those no-name nerds couldn’t have envisioned, geeks rule.
The g-men, bristling with their social media, will descend on the plush Tempe Mission Palms for FiestaCon, the local sci-fi/fantasy confab that this year doubles as Westercon. Special guests include artist Todd Lockwood (recent work pictured) and author Alan Dean Foster. Other fun includes a screening of Kevin Birnbaum’s Starwatch and appearance by its star, Carlos Gallardo; various Star Trek fan films; a 1632 minicon; an anime room; live role-playing; and much more.
