Drag queens are some of the most confident people you’ll ever meet. As they saunter about, lip syncing to Gloria Estefan’s “Get on Your Feet,” a kind of beauty emerges that has nothing to do with the layers upon layers of makeup they’re wearing. That inner glow is pride.

The Miss and Mister Phoenix Gay Pride Pageant selects the manliest woman and the womanliest man to represent Phoenix as the LGBTQ ambassadors to April’s Phoenix Pride Festival. They’ll ride on a float, sure, but they also get to plan a fundraiser for their charity of choice.

Though, before all that, they get to battle it out Saturday, February 25, with other cross-dressing and transgender contestants for the coveted title through a non-traditional series of runway walks, questions answered, and performances.
