With the window all but closed on their postseason hopes, the Arizona Diamondbacks are holding what little is left of their fate in their own mitts. The boys of summer close out the regular season with a September full of NL West showdowns, including several against the division leading San Francisco Giants. And while it may seem like a distant memory now, skipper Kirk Gibson is likely hoping that his club can summon the same energy it had in their season opening sweep of the boys from the bay — perhaps rousing a vestige of pride from 2012’s promising onset. Now it’s up to the D-Backs to prove that they’re more than a speck of slithery roadkill on the Giants’ path to a division title at this point.
