Glass bongs don’t classify as sculptures, but after seeing “A Glass Perspective,” presented by Art Glass Phoenix and held in conjunction with Arizona SciTech festival, visitors might be left feeling a little lightheaded by the display of glass sculptures created by eight Valley-based artists.
While most of these artists are professionals, some nationally recognized, two are “everyday Joes,” says glass artist and event organizer Marko Boyer. One’s a Phoenix firefighter; another works for a trolley company. “But their works are phenomenal.”
Upwards of two dozen pieces will showcase traditional leaded, fused and blown glass, plus hybrid forms of these styles.
“It’s completely world-class,” Boyer adds. “We’re just trying to get people to be a little more open-minded to other types of art than they normally would be.”
