Heading into the 2013-14 NBA season it was common knowledge that a handful of teams had hurled themselves headlong into rebuilding mode, dumping contracts and gobbling up first-round picks with a voracious eye for the famously loaded 2014 draft. Atop that list was the Phoenix Suns. But no one predicted that a young nucleus comprised of spurned trade pieces and castoff adoptees would win now. If rookie coach Jeff Hornacek can continue to galvanize his verdant bunch of b-ball vagabonds the way he has thus far, then the “rebuilding” Suns might just dance themselves into the playoffs — and with a high seed to boot.

Their odds-defying season continues against the geezer-laden, yet savvy Mavericks on Friday, January 17, at US Airways Center, 201 East Jefferson Street. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.; tickets start at $26.50. Visit www.nba.com/suns or call 602-379-2000 for details.
