Tempe may have bid farewell to the Twin Palms Hotel in May of 2014, but it’s about to welcome a new hotel venue in the exact same space.

On Tuesday, September 23, Chicago-based company A.J. Capital Partners will open Graduate Tempe, a 141-room boutique hotel that’s one of the first in a new line of hospitality destinations known as Graduate Hotels.

$30,000

The Graduate Tempe will pay tribute to ASU’s achievements in the study of human origins and life sciences with an interior that features artworks sourced in part by the ASU Art Department, a digital print of Charles Darwin’s Origin of the Species, and a large-scale ant farm, co-created by the Social Insect Research Department at the ASU School of Life Science.

The rooms, which run roughly between $99 and $200 a night, feature a 1970s-style interior, private patios, and optional campus or garden views.

In addition to the 1,800-square-foot special event space, the new Tempe hotel will also house two restaurants: The Normal, a modern day diner, and Tapacubo, a Mexican restaurant that serves street-style food.

Graduate Hotels will also open another location in Athens, Georgia, in fall 2014, and three more in Madison, Wisconsin; Charlottesville, Virginia; and Oxford, Mississippi, in 2015. A sixth location will open in Bloomington, Indiana, at a yet unannounced date. For more information, visit www.graduatehotels.com.
