Be it the gluttonous stylings of Junior Senior, or Aqua’s dreadful “Barbie Girl,” Denmark has exported enough bubblegum pop to give the entire western world a cavity. It’s also why you’ve probably never heard of Anders Trentemøller. The antithesis of all things Danish pop, Anders crept onto radars worldwide with 2006’s The Last Resort, a sprawling, instrumental effort that clocked in at about 75 minutes.
Trentemøller’s ability to sneak instead of splurge, along with an impeccable taste in timbre, made Resort a downright palatable layer cake of a debut. With 2010’s Into the Great Wide Yonder, the scruffy Dane broadened his already panoramic horizons, making for a more readily accessible record.
