It can be difficult for freaky-deaky performance artists to find a good gig in this town. If you happen to be a magician who likes to get naked on stage, an improviser who masquerades as a shark, or a guy just looking to throw a raging glow stick-filled dance party, traditional theater events sometimes seem a little, uh…restrictive.
Not so with 7 Minutes in Heaven. The anything-goes variety show taking place at Space 55 on Saturday, June 25, allows any adult to do whatever they want on-stage for a full seven minutes, with no auditions required.
“It’s an honest and daring representation of performers in Phoenix,” says Space 55 artistic director Shawna Franks. “I sign people up for the show but have no idea what they will be doing. Sometimes that’s amazing, sometimes that’s sickening and horrible.” The latest edition of the performance series is guaranteed to feature all manner of outrageous acts, which could include anything from improvised musical performances to sketch comedy to pumpkin carving. Here’s the saving grace: If you don’t like what you’re watching, it will be over in only seven minutes.
