Pam Gaber knows the healing power of a pooch, so she started Gabriel’s Angels to take Fido’s fidelity to those who need it most. Volunteer Angels pad into Valley hospitals, shelters, and Boys and Girls Clubs, bringing tail-wagging cheer and soulful looks to abused kids. Dog-loyal and dedicated, these best friends need funding to share the love. Support a doggone good cause this Saturday, February 21; join the Gabriel’s Angels Walk for Kids and Doggie Beach Party, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tempe’s Kiwanis Park, 6111 South All-America Way. You’ll have piles of fun playing fetch, wolfing a picnic lunch and sniffing out potential friends. Admission is $20 per participant, $35 for families. Erik Weihenmayer, the first blind man to conquer Mount Everest, discusses his achievements — reaching each continent’s highest peak — and screens Farther Than the Eye Can See, a documentary about his adventures.
