Despite the fact that nearly a quarter of American adults under 50 have tattoos, there’s still a stigma attached to body art. The Marines banned major ink in 2007, and many employers still require workers to hide their piercings (because, of course, that Hello Kitty band-aid on your eyebrow looks more professional than a gold stud).
But all restrictions on flesh-meddling will be suspended at the Body Art Expo, a three-day skin fest where painted equals pretty and “holier than thou” takes on a whole new meaning.
Look for on-site piercing and tattooing by such nationally known artists as Baba Austin, who inked Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro, plus a slew of contests including best new tat and most outrageous orgasm. If that’s not enough to make you squeal like a pig, volunteers will hang from meat hooks and one member of the Enigma Freak Show will submit to a tongue piercing involving a nail and a wooden plank.
