If we were asked to portray any artist/historical figure/famous-ish person, give us someone easy and boring, like Kevin Bacon. Basically, anyone but the impossible-to-pin-down Miles Davis. Mostly because we wouldn’t know where to start.
You see, the seminal musician and composer – who basically reinvented jazz five times in his six-decade career – made provocative, soul-stirring music, but acted like a bastard most of the time. Not only that, the trumpet-playing paradox, famous for such albums as the beautiful Kind of Blue and the fiery On the Corner, hated people more than Charles Bukowski, and folks, that’s not easy to do.
So much love goes out to Rod Ambrose, the spoken-word artist who is brave enough to reinterpret the late musician’s life in Cool Like That. Presented by BlackPoet Ventures, this one-man performance will feature the “poeticduction” of Davis through live sounds and visuals as well as spoken word by Ambrose, an outspoken advocate for change in the African-American community and a veteran performance artist known for his powerful stage roles.
