Save some chain grease for that ‘stache. Come Saturday all one needs for the Tempe Bicycle Action Group’s fourth annual Moustache Ride is, well, a little under-the-nose fringe.
Beginning at the Tempe Beach Park entrance, this bike/bar crawl celebrates all upper lip furbearing cyclists, including such notables as Thomas Stevens, the first person to pedal around the world (on a pennyfarthing, no less); U.S. road racer Steven Cozza; mountain bike pioneer Tom Ritchey; and even female East German Olympic sprinter Renate Neufeld (due to unsanctioned supplements).
But ladies, please don’t go to such extremes. If you’re lacking a moustache one may be provided, explains Jeremy Deatherage, TBAG Social Rides Coordinator.
When asked about the significance of the event, the mustachioed Deatherage, who hopes for a 50-rider turnout, says it’s simple: “Handlebars are great to hold onto for whatever your favorite ride might be.” Think about it.
