The stats say that the Phoenix Coyotes are average; they have an unimpressive goal differential and their performance on power plays has been mediocre. What’s put the Valley’s pro hockey team near the top of the standings is their uncanny ability to scratch out close wins.

The Detroit Red Wings are perhaps the only team that has the Coyotes’ number. A year after knocking Phoenix out of the playoffs, the guys from Delta City gut-punched the ‘Yotes twice this season with come-from-behind overtime victories.

The Coyotes will look to even the score during a game that may determine where both teams are seeded come playoff time.
