Book clubs are great — in theory. We imagine soul-searching intellectual chats about Brave New World and 1984. Of course, what you actually get is a bunch of bored housewives reading stupid feminist tomes about love and loss and blah, blah, blah. Cue violins. That’s why we’re excited about Torch Theatre’s Improvisational Bookclub, which literally brings novels to life via humorous improvisational scenes. This month’s selection is World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks. “As with any show, we can never tell where the improv will take us,” says producer Sam Haldiman. “Things might be slightly touched upon, but I am confident that nothing will be taken to the point of offending anyone.” Aw, shucks.
