There’s an endless list of reasons to be thankful for the canal system that runs through the Valley. For one, it supports our livelihood and recreation on an otherwise unbearable hundred thousand tons of concrete. It also quenches our thirst for desert adventure and gives way to a flow of innovation and creativity.
Such artistic examples can be seen at Canal Convergence, presented by Scottsdale Public Arts and SRP. The two-day, family-friendly event of water, art, and light will expand the possibilities the short stretch of waterway has to offer.
Beginning Saturday, November 10, the daytime schedule offers interactive art and workshops, accompanied by waves of sound and smell from local musicians and food vendors. A twilight transition opens with a performance of Spectrum by theatrical troupe Vessel, while striking visuals take light into the evening. Sunday, November 11, starts out with a community bike ride at 10 a.m. along the canal path with free brunch to riders. More artistic endeavors follow as the weekend comes to a close around 6 p.m.
