Friday’s USL Pro match between the Richmond Kickers and the Phoenix Wolves is looking a lot like the plot OF an ’80s movie. The Richmond Kickers are one of the oldest American soccer clubs; the Wolves are new. The Kickers are undefeated; the Wolves are languishing at the bottom of the table. The Kickers have a developmental deal with DC United; the Wolves don’t even have a team bus. On top of that, there are rumors swirling that Phoenix FC may be shut down for financial reasons. The only things missing are a romantic subplot and a montage set to a Survivor song.
The Wolves will host Richmond on July 19 at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium, 655 South Athletes Place in Tempe, at 7:30. Tickets are $9 and up via www.phoenixfc.com.
