Continuing with its goal of challenging institutionalized art, the Tempe Museum of Contemporary Art is hosting an “alternative artist lecture by celebrity guests” as part of the opening for Vision Quest, an exhibition curated by Jill Marie Mason and Caroline Battle.

The ‘celebrity guests’ might not be from Hollywood, but they are definitely dream boats.Peter Bugg and Kristin Bauer are mixed-media artists who have been staples of the Phoenix art scene for years.

“Kristin and Peter have collaborated to present an interactive lecture between the TMoCA visitors and the celebrity guests at the opening for the ‘state-of-the-art’ exhibition, Vision Quest,” says Becky Nahom, who helped organize the lecture. “The audience will actively participate in the artist’s professional and personal achievements in this game we call life, aka Celebrity Big Brother. A prize will be awarded as the very highest level of achievement and honor.”

$30,000

Yeah, we know. It doesn’t make any sense to us either, and according to Nahom, it’s not supposed to.

Luckily, we have faith in the artistic and performative talents of Bugg and Bauer — both artists received the Phoenix Art Museum’s Contemporary Forum Award (in 2011 and 2012, respectively).

The Vision Quest opening runs from 6 to 10 p.m. and the lecture will take place at 9 p.m.. For more information about the opening, visit the Facebook event page or the TMoCA tumblr.
