We always try to make the most of the last days of summer for one reason: Hating the heat makes you old. We’re positive that the day we stop squeezing the last juicy bits out of the season will be promptly followed by the day we start chasing kids off our lawn and crapping our pants as a way of life.

People clinging to their youth like we are would do well to spend Labor Day afternoon at Chase Field watching the Arizona Diamondbacks play the Los Angeles Dodgers. Like the summer, the D-Backs’ season is almost over, and today’s tussle will kick off the first of Arizona’s final five home series. The game also represents an excellent opportunity for the team to play spoiler in a tight playoff race as well as a great chance to catch one of the last meaningful baseball games Phoenix will see for the next six months.

Uh, maybe not so much on that final point.
