Seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong came, saw, and conquered the Four Peaks Brewery Urban Dirt Triathlon in Tempe on Sunday. He blew the competition out of the Town Lake water by more than four minutes.
Armstrong announced his participation in the race on his Twitter feed a few days ago, but other than a few tweets about coming to the desert, Armstrong kept his appearance low-key.
The cycling legend clearly has an affinity for riding in the desert, as he and his Team RadioShack teammates held a training camp in North Scottsdale last December.
Watch Armstrong’s belly flop on the Urban Dirt Triathlon’s famous slip-n-slide finish (thankfully not in the Town Lake) after the jump.
Armstrong beat out Lewis Elliott and finished at 1:34:49 (12:14 on the swim, 1:01:00 on the mountain bike, 21:31 on the run). Local female racer Erin Densham beat Australian pro Katie Ellis to take home top honors.
