When you’re an artist and you use light as a medium, things can get tricky. How does one control electromagnetic radiation anyway? Dan Flavin figured it out with his fluorescent light fixtures and James Turrell manipulates light by creating architectural space (yes, people, that’s what these artists are about).
Local artist Mhelanie Banzon Silao tries her hand at marshalling this elusive medium through photography by setting up lengthy exposures to catch different light sources. Each piece offers a glowing portrait of multiple light effects, captured in one shot – Silao aims to capture a moment in time (or, in her case, several moments). You can see the results of her bright ideas at “Captured Lights: Light Paintings.”
