Ralphie May is funny, in part, because he’s big. As a society, we tend to find fat people hilarious at base value, and the rotund comedian has capitalized on this by poking fun at his own rotundity.
But Ralphie May is also big because he’s funny. Since his second-that-totally-should’ve-been-first-place finish on the debut season of Last Comic Standing, May’s made us laugh throughout three Comedy Central specials (the third of which, Too Big to Ignore, finished taping in October), performed on a bunch of late-night shows, toured the country, started up a weekly podcast with his wife, Lahna Turner, and had a couple kids he decided to name April June and August. Truth is, all his talent just couldn’t fit in a body any smaller.
