Do you wonder what planet you came from because you appreciate the heck out of Roscoe Mitchell’s Sound? Are you generally a low-key cat except for when you flip anytime you hear a prepared piano? Do you scour Italian and German Web sites for original-edition ESP and FMP Records? Then you’ll probably be super into Outer Bounds of Sound, Revolver Records’ new Sunday-night series featuring local acts operating in the experimental, noise, drone, free jazz, avant-garde, ambient, and minimalist realms. Even if your new-music chops aren’t that developed, this must-listen music is like nothing else going on in town.
When asked about the idea behind the series, Revolver co-conspirator Steve Zimmerman says, “Why not? I mean, I own a record shop, we have the space (if we move some stuff around), and there are a lot of people excited about this, both as performers and listeners.”
The lineup on Sunday, December 13, includes Permanent Squid, Via Vengeance, Tony Obr, and Palo Verde from Portland, Oregon.
Sundays, 6-8:30 p.m.; Sundays, 6-8:30 p.m. Starts: Nov. 29. Continues through Dec. 13, 2009
