If you’re the adventurous type, you’ll love this caveat from the folks at Maricopa County Parks & Recreation about the Mountain Bike by the Moonlight event: “This is not a guided ride. Volunteers will sweep the course to ensure all riders return safely.” Sweep the course? What, for Bell-helmet-wearing, still-warm corpses or something? That’s so cool!
To those who are all scaredy-cat about such proclamations, the ride is really not that ominous. For one, it takes place on the Pemberton Trail at McDowell Mountain Regional Park, 16300 McDowell Mountain Park Drive in Scottsdale, which is a totally safe, not-super-technical 15.4-mile path. And as long as you have bike lights with juice for at least three hours, you’ll be good to go.
The ride begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 25, and must be completed by 10, which is when the (cue horror music) “sweep” commences.
