For the seventh year, Breaking Ground will bring contemporary dance, film, and art to the Valley from an impressive roster of national and international artists. Organized by Carley Conder, artistic director of CONDER/dance, the two-night event includes 17 works selected from nearly 100 applications.

“The overriding criteria for Breaking Ground was ‘Is this innovative? Is this taking a risk? Is this pushing the boundaries of how dance is defined right now?'” Conder says.

Both nights of performances will begin with reConception, a site-specific piece the re-imagines spaces at the Tempe Center for the Arts. Other works featured in the festival will include subSTRATA; from Los Angeles-based choreographer Chad Michael Hall; Seasons of White fromArch Contemporary Ballet artistic directir Sheena Annalise; and the premiere of subtidal,an underwater-themed piece from Carley Conder.

The curtains will rise for Breaking Ground 2014 at 8 p.m. Friday, January 24, on the main stage of Tempe Center for the Arts, 700 West Rio Salado Parkway. Tickets cost $20 in advance or $25 at the door. For more information, call 480-350-2822 or visit www.conderdance.com.
