While most of you may already know that science-fiction poster boy Nathan Fillion is coming to Phoenix Comicon, which runs from Thursday, June 5, through Sunday June 8, you might be interested to hear that he’ll also be paying a visit to ASU’s Tempe campus for a special one-night-only discussion, “Serenity, Softwire, and the Science of Science Fiction.”

Sponsored by ASU’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ Department of English and the Center for Science and the Imagination at ASU, this exclusive gathering (facilitated by science fiction author P.J. Haarsma) will cover the role of science in fiction and reading in the lives of a younger generation.

Joining actor Nathan Fillion in the conversation will be ASU professors Jim Bell, Ed Finn, Peter Goggin, and Sara Imari Walker. “Serenity, Softwire, and the Science of Science Fiction” is scheduled to take place Saturday, June 7, at 8 p.m. inside ASU’s University Club. Attendance is limited to 50 guests. Admission is $250 and includes light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.
