The Black Theater Troupe might still be clearing away the sawdust in their new downtown digs, but, as they say, the show must go on.

On Friday, February 8, the troupe will kick off their run of The Whipping Man. The play, written by Matthew Lopez, tells the story of Caleb DeLeon, a wounded Jewish Confederate soldier who returns to his abandoned family plantation. Only two former slaves, Simon and John, remain. On the last night of Passover the three prepare to face a new world – and pain and secrets from the past.

Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 3 p.m.; Thu., Feb. 14, 2 p.m.; Sat., Feb. 16, 2 p.m. Starts: Feb. 8. Continues through Feb. 17, 2013
