Gunslingers and ballet go together like murderous rage and opera. Which is to say, really well, actually. See for yourself as Center Dance Ensemble presents The Bad and The Beautiful, a season première whose main piece is a reimagined version of Eugene Loring and Aaron Copland’s “Billy the Kid/The Ballet.”
Company founder and artistic director Frances Smith Cohen has created new choreography for the popular piece, which will be presented along with four new pieces. Cohen’s “With Wings” and “Red” (a nod to Little Red Ridingn Hood) will accompany Dine McNeal Hunt’s “Night of Moonlit Wild,” a work inspired by shadow and light in nature. Scorpius Dance Theatre’s Lisa Starry rounds out the bill with her new piece, “Fade.”
Showtime is 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, at Herberger Theater Center, 222 East Monroe Street. The show closes with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, October 26. Tickets are $28 for adults and available at www.herbergertheater.org or by calling 602-252-8497.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sun., Oct. 26, 2 p.m. Starts: Oct. 23. Continues through Oct. 25, 2014
