What does it mean to live in Arizona today? Of course, the answers vary. But that’s the question up for exploration when international performance group Nemcatacoa Teatro and Tucson-based multimedia troupe Verbo-bala come together for Desierto Remix: Performance in the Desert.

The performance will begin with Nemcatacoa’s acrobatic procession though the desert at ASU Deer Valley Rock Art Center. Dancers will move through the landscape on stilts, inviting audience members to think about the history of their surroundings. They’ll be followed up by Verbo-bala’s video and multimedia project that re-imagines the oral history of the borderlands. Written by bilingual poet Logan Phillips, the video samples authors, photographs and videos to remix classic Borderlands tales.

Reinterpret the desert from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 12 at the Deer Valley Rock Art Center, 3711 West Deer Valley Road. Tickets cost $10 for general admission and $8 for students. For more information, call 623-582-8007 or visit www.dvrac.asu.edu.
