Recreation is getting a lot more creative, from warrior dashes to mud runs and bubble courses to neon dances. And this January you can add some much needed motivation to your New Year’s resolution with The Color Run AZ. Also known as “The Happiest 5K on the Planet,” this 3.1-mile multicolored course douses white-attired runners in all shades of vibrant paints. And this year as part of the 2014 Kaleidoscope Tour, racers will also be able jog, skip, and dance their way through giant, life-size kaleidoscopes. The untimed race will be followed by Finish Festival featuring music, dancing, and even more color throws — just in case you missed a spot.

The Color Run AZ takes off Saturday, January 25, at Tempe Beach Park, 54 West Rio Salado Parkway in Tempe. Race times are 7:45 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. Ticket prices are $45 for individual runners and $40 for teams of four or more runners. Visit www.thecolorrun.com/tempe or call 855-MOCOLOR.

Sat., Jan. 25, 7:45 & 8:20 a.m., 2014
