No offense to municipal employees, but the breed doesn’t have the best track record for success.
On the other hand, the folks behind the City of Phoenix’s wildly popular Silent Sunday monthly series at South Mountain Park – an alt-transportation-awareness event in which the park is closed to Sunday drivers and other bothersome vehicular traffic – have not only succeeded, they’ve done it by cutting against the very grain of our culture.
No cars.
The city recently inaugurated a sister program at North Mountain Park.
