The new American Dream for Millennials involves flipping your Tumblr blog into a book deal. But the Indie Author Publishing Conference & Pitchapalooza at Burton Barr Central Library on Saturday, February 1, is all about teaching aspiring scribes about more realistic avenues.

Giving advice on going DIY or seeking big league literary agents are the Indie Author Publishing Conference presenters, including New York Times best-selling author Laurie Notaro, author and entrepreneur Pamela Slim, and acclaimed graphic designer, filmmaker, and artist Safwat Saleem, among many others.

Pitchapalooza, which is free and open to the public, randomly selects contestants to pitch their book idea to a panel of judges in under a minute. They’ll get feedback, and one lucky winner will be introduced to a literary agent or publisher who might help them on their way.

The event takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 1221 North Central Avenue. Registration for participants is $150. Pitchapalooza is at 5:15 p.m. and free. Call 480-730-0205 or visit www.changinghands.com.
