For Ben Ruiz, games aren’t just for playing. They’re his job. And, sure, being an artist and designer who makes a living by designing games is wicked cool. But it’s not easy. Ruiz has worked in the gaming industry for six years and contributed work to 14 games. He also serves as creative director at the Arizona-based development studio Team Colorblind.

Lucky for those looking to follow in Ruiz’s digital footprints, he’ll give a lecture on his work experiences and pass along a few career tips when he stops by Game CoLab, a collaborative workspace for all things game-related. His talk, “Anatomy of the Game Industry,” will touch on such topics as jobs, software, and how to break into the business.

The event begins at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 17, and continues until 5 p.m. Game CoLab is located in suite 102 of the Levine Machine Building, 605 East Grant Street. Admission is $15, and participants can register via www.meetup.com/Game-CoLab/events/123302152.
