Andy Warhol’s name evokes images of soup cans and neon-painted celebrities, but the ’60s wild child was also known for throwing “Exploding Plastic Inevitable” parties at The Factory featuring sexy dancers, The Velvet Underground, and freaky performance art. That’s the kind of hip, bohemian bash SWAY Events is aiming to re-create with Artopia: An Evening of Pop Art at MonOrchid Gallery. The event, benefiting the Grand Canyon Performing Arts organization, will include a silent auction and raffle, appetizers served on paint palettes, and DJ-spun tunes. In the spirit of The Factory, guests will be encouraged to collaborate on a paint-by-numbers wall. Have a few drinks at the 21-and-over cocktail reception from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and you might be inspired to color outside the lines (or take off your top and be the canvas).
