If video killed the radio star, then digital killed the Polaroid star. Noting the rise of DSLR cameras and built-in photography tools in cell phones, Polaroid announced in 2008 that it would cease production of all instant film, and the weird, boxy cameras that have been a part of our culture since 1948 also would be no more. Time Zero: The Last Year of Polaroid Film captures this moment and many others, from the rise of Polaroid to the despair of photographers who loved the cameras to the attempts of a crazy Austrian to undertake “The Impossible Project” — a quest to recreate the film that gives us all reason to shake it like a Polaroid picture.
