Say the word “ceramics” to most folks and they’ll show you their “I Just Work Here” coffee mug or tell you about the time they got high, went to a strip mall pottery studio, and painted pot leaves on a dog bowl. That’s great for a casual encounter, but there’s got to be more to the craft.
Revealing the functional, brainy, and foxy side of the pottery process, the “Ceramic Design: Manufactured Brilliance and Beauty in Daily Life” exhibition at ASU features works from designers who not only have the material know-how, but also offer an alternative to the dichotomy of mass-production versus studio one-offs.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: April 10. Continues through Aug. 24, 2010
