Beauty isn’t the sole entitlement of young ladies who can squeeze into size zero outfits, though that’s often what’s represented at traditional pageants. With thirteen contestants in drag vying for the titles, you can expect more than just Barbie doll look-a-likes at the Phoenix Mister & Miss Gay Pride Pageant.
While categories fall in line with what you may be used to — question-and-answer sessions, a talent competition, and even an eveningwear portion — twists including handmade costumes add to the event’s fabulousness. The pageant is not entirely frivolous, either; winners raise hundreds of dollars throughout their reign for various charities.
Jujubee and Jessica Wild, of RuPaul’s Drag Race, play pageant host.
