On Saturday, September 22, volunteers from non-profit humanitarian group No Mas Muertes (or No More Deaths) will host their third annual silent art auction to benefit the group’s efforts in the Arizona desert.
The mission of the organization, which was founded in 2004, is to “end death and suffering on the U.S./Mexico border through civil initiative” and to “work openly and in community to uphold fundamental human rights.” The group maintains a year-round camp in Arivaca, offers medical assistance to those stranded, and hikes regularly through the desert to drop water supplies in areas where migrants cross the border.
This year locally made art, jewelry, and crafts will be up for grabs through silent auction. The work will be on view from 6 to 8 p.m., and the auction will follow. According to event organizers, drinks, appetizers, and live music will be provided throughout the evening.
Sat., Sept. 22, 6-10 p.m., 2012
