Though a regular season victory could never avenge the post-season smack down that the eventual Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings put on the Phoenix Coyotes last year, it certainly wouldn’t hurt. Considering the fact that the Coyotes are in an airtight race with the Kings to claw down the Pacific Division-leading Anaheim Ducks, it’s downright necessary. Couple that with the added gravitas each game carries thanks to the lockout shortened season and you’ve got yourself a playoff environment a month before they even begin.

Assuming the doggies do eke their way into post-season play, their west-coast foes proved quite handily last season that it only matters who’s hot come the end of April — God knows Phoenix usually is. The Kings visit Glendale’s Jobing.com Arena on Tuesday, April 2, for the final regular season showdown against their fiercest division rival.
