The last time you participated in a book club, you ended up frantically searching the Interwebs an hour before it met for the Cliffs Notes version of David McCullough’s 700-page snoozer, John Adams. Never again.
The folks at Practical Art in Phoenix believe that the literary snob who suggested McCullough’s tome should be made to walk the plank. The downtown gallery is hosting a new Lazy Arse’s Book Club, where each month’s read is 200 pages or less and sea-themed — which means instead of sipping syrah and feigning interest in the Revolution, you’ll be tossing back a rum-and-coke in a chill discussion facilitated by Practical Art co-owner Kara Roschi.
The twice-monthly club kicks off with Shipwrecks by Akira Yoshimura, a mere 192 pages about a young boy who lives in a poor fishing village. Try to read at least half of the book before attending.
