Red Hot Robot, Central Avenue’s toy gallery and culture shop, is packing boxes this month and leaving its space in the Medlock Plaza at the end of February with a goodbye bash/art show.
While the new location hasn’t been finalized, owner Jason Kiningham says he plans to stay in the Central Corridor and that the RHR move will allow him to re-brand the store.
The planned bash on February 4, dubbed Only Locals, will celebrate the old space as well as all of the
artists and customers who have been regulars at the store since it
opened in 2007.
“I opened [participation in the show] up to all the artists who were
really instrumental in making the store what it is,” says Kiningham.

So far, 15 artists have signed up and will bring their own style and creativity — everything from paintings and drawings to robot sculpture, skate decks, and customized figures.
“It’s a farewell party to the space in a sense,” says Kiningham. “But all the artists will be there, and I thought this is a nice way for customers to come out and meet the artists.”
The farewell will be Friday, February 4 from 7 to 10 p.m., after which, art can be seen during regular business hours —
Tuesday through Sunday from noon until 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon until 5
p.m. until February 25.
