For sports scribes, the state of the Detroit Pistons would best be described as a “rebuilding phase.” For residents of the Motor City, however, there’s a more accurate phrase to describe the team: “utterly depressing.”
The glory days of both the team’s ’80s Bad Boys era and their 2004 upset of the Los Angeles Lakers for the NBA Championship are mere memories to Pistons fans, as the team’s resided in the cellar of Central Division for the past few seasons.
In many ways they mirror the Phoenix Suns; Planet Orange’s days of dominating the Pacific Division are also in the rearview. Steve Nash and Grant Hill are two of the oldest players in the NBA, and while both spryly notch double digits regularly, it hasn’t gotten their squad above .500 so far this year.
The Suns still have an outside chance of making the playoffs, so expect Nash and Hill to provide their usual great performances in pursuit of a postseason berth when the Pistons visit.
