If you have somehow managed to mosey through the last year without hearing Foster The People’s infectious single “Pumped Up Kicks,” you’re either deaf, a hermit, or some sort of Houdini, which is, incidentally, the name of one of the band’s other singles.
Originally named Foster & The People, the Los Angeles trio simplified their moniker after discovering that concertgoers were mishearing it without the “and” anyway. Names aside, no one seems to be mishearing the bands debut effort Torches, a solid display of frontman Mark Foster’s expansive songwriting chops. Implausible as it may seem, FTP didn’t even exist three years ago and will, deservedly, be headlining an all-ages night at Comerica Theatre.
