You have exactly two days to get your booty down to ASU for the South Phoenix PhotoVoice Project photography exhibition, “South Phoenix through the Eyes of Youth”.
Okay, I realize this is really under the wire, but this is a blog, people, and giving some last-minute coverage to a well-deserved event is one of the things it’s good for, right?
Anyway, the project is committed to combat obesity in children and uses photography as the learning tool in which children explore their community’s relationship to food and exercise.
South Phoenix kids aged 10 to 12 met every Saturday at the Salvation Army
South Mountain Community Center for 12 weeks in 2009. There, the kids
learned lessons about photography, proper nutrition, exercise, and body
image issues.

Then the kids were set loose to snap photos of their community that related to their health lessons.
The results of the kids’ hard work can be seen at the ASU Anthropology Museum, located just off of the main lobby in the School of Human Evolution and Social Change Building, which is at the corner of Tyler and Cady malls on the ASU Tempe Campus. Visit http://asuma.asu.edu.
The South Phoenix PhotoVoice Project is funded by the Association of State & Territorial Public Health Nutrition Directors and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in collaboration with the Arizona Department of Health Services, Arizona State University and the Salvation Army Phoenix South Mountain Corps Community Center.
